Meta’s Social Media Platforms Face Outages, Affecting Thousands of Users

Theindiapostdaily.com – On Friday, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, confirmed that some users were encountering challenges accessing its social media platforms. The issue, which impacted both Facebook and Instagram, was documented by Downdetector, an outage-tracking service. By 10:11 am ET, the platform recorded over 62,000 reports of Facebook disruptions and more than 8,000 for Instagram. Downdetector aggregates user-submitted complaints alongside data from various sources to monitor service availability.

User Concerns and Reactions

Meta’s spokesperson, Andy Stone, addressed the situation via X, stating, “We’re aware people are experiencing trouble accessing our services. We’re addressing the issue.” Meanwhile, users shared their frustrations online. One posted, “I can’t believe Facebook is down; I panicked thinking my account was disabled again.” Another exclaimed, “Both IG & Facebook Is Still Down For Me Waiting To It To Be Back Up!!!” A third user humorously remarked, “Well Facebook down so I’ll scroll on here.”

Meta and Reliance Forge Agreement for AI-Ready Data Centre in India

In a strategic move, Meta has inked an agreement with Reliance Industries to lease an AI-ready data centre under development. This partnership strengthens their collaboration, particularly as the Indian government promotes the nation as a hub for AI innovation. The data centre, located in Jamnagar, Gujarat, will be part of Reliance’s existing energy and industrial complex. It is designed to support up to 150,000 households and allows for future scalability.

The project aligns with India’s surge in hyperscale data centre infrastructure, driven by companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. This expansion coincides with the government’s initiatives to attract foreign investments and boost the country’s position in the global tech landscape. Reliance’s commitment to investing $110 billion and Adani Group’s $100 billion plan further highlight India’s ambition to become a leading AI development site.

Industry Expert Analysis

“Reliance has the infrastructure, and Meta has the AI expertise,” said Deven Choksey, Managing Director of DRChoksey FinServ. Jamnagar’s established facilities, reliable energy and water access, and lower operational costs provide a strong edge for the project.

The data centre will leverage Reliance’s renewable energy systems, enabling cleaner and potentially cheaper power sources while reducing dependence on traditional grids. Meta has not yet shared financial terms or a timeline for the project’s completion, according to the report. Industry analysts, like IMARC Group, predict India’s data centre market could reach $13.11 billion by 2034, fueled by digital adoption, cloud demand, and AI’s computational needs.
