Damage assessments are ongoing, but preliminary reports indicate partial collapse of a structure in General Santos City. Local radio DZRH shared that some buildings sustained damage, prompting evacuations. A hospital in the area also moved patients to safer locations beside the road.

“We’ve coordinated with coastal municipalities to conduct emergency evacuations,” explained Rene Punzalan, head of Sarangani’s provincial disaster office, during a DZBB radio interview. “There’s no electricity, and phone signals are unreliable.”

Residents described the quake as intense. Tomas Alon, a General Santos City resident, recounted, “I couldn’t even stand, it was so strong. Everything in my house fell down. It probably took me one minute before I got down from the second floor.”

Van Ruiz, a staff member at a Sarangani Bay resort, confirmed that all guests were being checked out and the hotel’s structure had suffered some damage. Meanwhile, media reports stated that government operations in cities like Davao were temporarily halted, and flights to General Santos City were suspended.
