Seattle Authorities Investigate Connections Among Teenage Shooters at Festival

A 15-year-old suspect was taken into custody at the location and faces charges including a firearm violation alongside three counts of first-degree assault. According to an online fundraising page created for Whitehead’s family, she was waiting in line for cotton candy with her daughter and future son-in-law when the shooting began, and she subsequently passed away during surgery.

Confusion in Early Communications

Public updates regarding the shooting have occasionally contained inaccuracies or incomplete information since Sunday evening. The mayor’s first statement that night incorrectly claimed two suspects were already in custody, a mistake that was later corrected without further clarification. While the police chief was traveling out of town during the incident, another senior officer delayed providing preliminary details to journalists for several hours. During a Monday morning press conference, officials shared information that conflicted with court documents filed for the suspect’s initial appearance.

The mayor concluded by affirming that “everyone deserves to feel safe in our city, to be safe in our city, in all of our neighborhoods, in all of our public spaces,” and pledged that officials would work diligently to make this a reality since the city’s future and vitality depend on residents feeling secure wherever they are.
