Shubman Gill Champions Student Cause During Nationwide Exam Protest Movement

Theindiapostdaily.com – India’s cricket captain Shubman Gill has publicly expressed solidarity with students participating in demonstrations across the country regarding recurring examination paper leaks. The student movement, which initially emerged in the capital city of New Delhi, has since expanded to include Mumbai and several other regions including Bihar.

What began as peaceful gatherings on July 20 at Jantar Mantar has evolved into more intense demonstrations. Law enforcement agencies have deployed lathi-charges on multiple occasions to maintain order during these escalating protests.

Student Demands and Leadership

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) is leading the agitation, receiving backing from environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has undertaken an indefinite fast to show solidarity with the protesting youth. Central to their demands is the removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, whom they hold accountable for the NEET examination paper leaks that necessitated a re-test.

Tragically, several students across the nation took their own lives following the revelation of the paper leaks.

Gill’s Message of Support

Sharing his thoughts on Instagram Story, the Indian cricket captain emphasized that every individual deserves the chance to learn, pursue their dreams, and mold their destiny.

“As a young Indian, I believe our generation deserves every opportunity to learn, dream and shape the future we all aspire to.”

He further expressed admiration for the peaceful approach of the protesting students.

“I have immense respect for every young person who believes in making their voice heard peacefully. Education has the power to shape our nation’s future. I hope we move forward with compassion, mutual respect and keeping the best interests of every student at heart.”

Tendulkar Echoes Similar Sentiments

Just one hour prior to Gill’s statement, legendary former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also voiced his support for the students. He recalled lessons from his late father, Ramesh Tendulkar, who served as a professor and instilled important values in him from an early age.

“Failure is okay, cheating is not. Never take shortcuts.”

Tendulkar highlighted the collective responsibility of adults in society to nurture proper values.

“As adults in society, we have the responsibility of shaping culture. A society which prioritises outcomes over effort will seek shortcuts over meritocracy. Today, when students feel disappointed that their hard work hasn’t been rewarded, it is understandable.”

The cricket icon emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to prevent such disappointments in the future.

“Collectively, we should all work together towards ensuring they don’t feel this way again.”

He expressed confidence that solutions would emerge and stressed the importance of building a culture where honesty and merit are valued.

“As a society, all of us, including parents, teachers, friends, relatives, schools, and administrators, have a massive responsibility and different roles to play in ensuring our youth remain encouraged and energised.”

“We must create a culture where hard work is rewarded, honesty is encouraged, and merit wins. I am certain we will all find solutions that strengthen our children’s future and safeguard their aspirations.”

Pathan Adds His Voice

Former India fast bowler Irfan Pathan also joined the chorus of support for the protesting students.

“Every student puts in years of hard work for a better future and their families make sacrifices along the way too. No paper leak should ever be allowed to take that hope.”

Pathan expressed confidence in the country’s ability to address the issue and protect student aspirations.

“I have full faith that our country, authorities will ensure every one of them gets a fair chance. I also hope every possible step is taken to make sure this never happens again. Our students are our future, Protect their dreams.”
