Second Sudanese National at Hyderabad Hospital Tests Negative for Ebola
Theindiapostdaily.com – Officials confirmed on Saturday that a second Sudanese citizen, admitted to Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad with fever symptoms, has tested negative for the Ebola virus. This follows the earlier admission of another Sudanese individual who also showed negative results after being treated at the hospital.
“The second of two Sudanese nationals admitted to the state-run Gandhi Hospital here with complaints of fever also tested negative for Ebola, officials said on Saturday.”
A 20-something student was transferred to Gandhi Hospital late on June 4 after being treated at a private clinic in the city. His companion was instructed to undergo home quarantine as a precautionary measure.
In response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak, the Telangana government established a dedicated 10-bed isolation unit at Gandhi Hospital to manage suspected cases. Last month, Hyderabad airport issued an advisory detailing enhanced public health protocols aligned with guidelines from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
This directive targets travelers arriving from or passing through regions impacted by the outbreak, such as Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and surrounding high-risk zones. Those from these areas might be asked to fill out a Self-Declaration Form (SDF) prior to leaving the aircraft, according to the advisory.
Understanding Ebola Transmission
The World Health Organization (WHO) describes Ebola as a serious illness with high mortality rates among humans and primates. It spreads to people through contact with infected animals like fruit bats, porcupines, and non-human primates.
The virus then propagates via direct exposure to the bodily fluids of affected individuals, including blood and secretions, as well as through contaminated surfaces and items such as clothing and bedding.
