PM Modi Urges States to Prioritize Investment, Skilling, and Business Efficiency for Viksit Bharat

Theindiapostdaily.com – During a recent gathering of state leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the critical role of state governments in driving India’s economic progress. The Niti Aayog Governing Council, convened under the theme “Inclusive Human Development for Viksit Bharat@2047,” brought together chief ministers from all 28 states for the first time. Modi stressed that states must act as catalysts for growth, extending opportunities from state capitals to urban local bodies, while leveraging free trade agreements to attract foreign direct investment (FDI).

Modi pointed out that FDI inflows had remained under $100 billion in FY26, urging states to intensify efforts in investment promotion. He also highlighted the importance of developing a skilled workforce, positioning artificial intelligence (AI) and data centres as pivotal sectors for future growth. The Prime Minister advised states to view AI as a transformative opportunity, not a disruptive force, and to collaborate with industries to create training programs aligned with emerging economic demands.

Decentralized Development and District-Level Planning

Discussions centered on the need for localized economic strategies, with Modi advocating for district-level GDP estimates to provide precise insights into regional performance. The council proposed focused interventions in 100 districts, drawing parallels to the Aspirational Districts Programme, and encouraged the expansion of the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative to boost local industries.

Additionally, Modi called for preventive measures against cyber fraud and drug abuse, emphasizing the importance of awareness campaigns and robust governance. On agriculture, he underscored the necessity of promoting water conservation and natural farming methods, citing El Niño conditions as a potential threat to crop yields.

Energy Security and Geopolitical Challenges

Energy security emerged as a pressing concern, particularly amid ongoing conflicts in West Asia. Modi noted that coordinated efforts between the central and state governments would be essential to address this issue. However, Niti Aayog member Rajiv Gauba observed that no chief minister had formally requested assistance related to the geopolitical situation.

Following the meeting, Niti Aayog vice-chairman Ashok Kumar Lahiri reiterated that the focus was on inclusive human development and empowering states through better governance. He highlighted the importance of fostering growth through strategic investments and district-level planning, ensuring equitable progress across the nation.

Building a Future-Ready Workforce

Modi reiterated that states must prioritize education and human capital development to convert India’s youthful population into a competitive workforce. With nearly 70 crore Indians under the age of 25, he urged leaders to equip young people with skills tailored to evolving sectors like technology and sustainable industries.

He also praised the increasing adoption of organic practices in agriculture, noting that approximately 11 lakh tonnes of organic manure were purchased during the current kharif season. This trend reflects growing trust in eco-friendly farming techniques, which Modi believes will strengthen food security and resilience against climate-related disruptions.
