CBI Arrests Two in Suvendu Adhikari Aide Murder Case

Theindiapostdaily.com – The Murder of Suvendu Adhikari s aide has taken a significant turn as the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested two brothers, Sagar and Sahib Sonkar, on July 31. These suspects are allegedly connected to the killing of Chandranath Rath, who served as the personal aide to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Rath was fatally shot on May 6, just days after the state election results were announced. The attackers, riding a motorcycle, struck near Madhyamgram in the North 24 Parganas district before fleeing the scene. Police investigations have revealed that the Sonkar brothers maintain regular contact with a rival political party’s headquarters through a landline telephone, strengthening suspicions about their political motivations.

Investigation Progress and Additional Arrests

The CBI’s probe into the Murder of Suvendu Adhikari s aide has expanded considerably since the initial arrests. Earlier in June, investigators detained Gyanendra Pratap Singh, also known as Monu, from Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh. Singh, who faced twelve separate criminal cases across multiple jurisdictions, was transferred from Mau jail to Kolkata following a non-bailable warrant issued by Barasat’s Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court. His wife has consistently maintained his innocence and expressed confidence in the CBI’s investigation.

“We trust the CBI will uncover the truth behind this tragic incident,” Singh’s wife stated during the proceedings.

Singh’s social media posts and video recordings have provided valuable insights into the case. In these communications, he called for a fair investigation while naming several individuals he believed were involved in the conspiracy. Alongside Singh, the CBI also brought two more suspects to Kolkata: Naveen Kumar Singh and Golu Singh, commonly known as Tiger. Raj Kumar Singh was apprehended during the same timeframe, bringing the total number of accused persons to five.

A History of Suspicious Deaths

Rath’s death marks the fourth suspicious incident involving people close to Suvendu Adhikari over the past thirteen years. This pattern has raised concerns among political observers and law enforcement agencies. Pradip Jha, who worked as Adhikari’s personal assistant, died in 2013 under mysterious circumstances. His body was found along Kolkata’s Strand Road, and although Adhikari demanded an inquiry at the time, the case remains unresolved to this day.

The tragedy continued in 2018 when Subhabrata Chakraborty, Adhikari’s long-serving bodyguard, died at a security facility near the Chief Minister’s residence. Reports suggest he took his own life using his service revolver, prompting an investigation by the West Bengal CID. The fourth incident occurred in 2021 when Pulak Lahiri, a prominent political associate, passed away during the assembly election campaign period.

The Murder of Suvendu Adhikari s aide case has been registered at Madhyamgram police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. The two Sonkar brothers are expected to appear before a special court in Kolkata in the coming days. Legal experts suggest that the political connections revealed during the investigation could influence the trial’s proceedings significantly.

Witnesses who were present at the crime scene have provided detailed accounts of the incident. They described how the attackers approached Rath on his motorcycle and fired multiple shots before escaping into the nearby streets. The CBI has collected forensic evidence from the location and is analyzing mobile phone records to establish communication patterns between the suspects and their alleged political handlers.

Political analysts believe that the timing of the murder, shortly after the election results, was not coincidental. The rival party has denied any involvement in the incident, calling the allegations baseless. However, the evidence gathered by investigators points toward a coordinated effort involving multiple parties. The case continues to attract attention from media outlets and political commentators across the country.
