EC Revises SIR Schedule in Telangana: New Timeline for Voter Roll Updates

This significant revision, announced by ECI Secretary Pawan Diwan, pushes the final publication date for Telangana’s electoral rolls to October 19, 2026. The updated timeline will utilize October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date for voter enumeration purposes. This adjustment provides additional time for Booth Level Officers to complete comprehensive house-to-house visits and rationalize polling station arrangements across the state.

Extended Deadlines for Telangana’s SIR Process

Under the revised schedule, house-to-house enumeration visits by Booth Level Officers and polling station rearrangements have been extended until August 10, 2026. The draft electoral roll for Telangana will now be published on August 17, 2026, giving electors a full one-month window from August 17 to September 16, 2026, to file claims and objections. The comprehensive disposal of these claims and objections, along with the notice phase, will span from August 17 through October 15, 2026, ensuring thorough verification before final publication.

The Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana had previously requested additional time to complete the voter enumeration process effectively. This extension allows for more accurate voter data collection and reduces the likelihood of errors in the final electoral roll. The extended timeline also provides citizens with adequate opportunity to verify their enrollment status and submit necessary documentation.

“The revision ensures that all eligible voters in Telangana have sufficient time to participate in the SIR process and verify their electoral enrollment,” stated an ECI official.

Odisha Receives Similar Schedule Revisions

In a parallel development, the Election Commission has also revised the SIR schedule in Odisha following a formal request from the state’s Chief Electoral Officer. The Odisha revision utilizes July 1, 2026, as its qualifying date for voter enumeration. The notification issued on Friday extended the claims and objections filing period from the original August 4 deadline to August 19, 2026.

The revised Odisha schedule ensures that the notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will continue until September 17, 2026. The final publication of electoral rolls for Odisha is scheduled for September 21, 2026. This timeline mirrors the comprehensive approach taken in Telangana, providing citizens with adequate time to participate in the revision process.

Andhra Pradesh and Haryana Complete Draft Roll Publication

The Election Commission also published draft electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh following the completion of the enumeration phase. According to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, 3.71 crore electors submitted their Enumeration Forms, while 15.22 lakh electors were identified as deceased during the exercise. The participation rate was particularly strong, with 3,71,38,182 electors—representing 89.22 percent of the state’s total 4,16,27,694 voters—submitting their forms between June 15 and July 24.

The ECI reported that 15.22 lakh electors, or 3.66 percent, were identified as deceased during the revision exercise. Additionally, 22.30 lakh electors, constituting 5.35 percent, were categorized as permanently shifted, absent, or falling under other categories. Furthermore, 7.37 lakh electors, or 1.77 percent, were found to be enrolled at multiple locations in the electoral rolls.

Similarly, the draft electoral rolls for all 90 Assembly constituencies in Haryana were published after completing the first phase of the SIR exercise. As of July 24, a total of 1.72 crore electors out of 2.06 crore submitted their enumeration forms, demonstrating overwhelming participation. During this exercise, 24.13 lakh electors were found permanently shifted or absent, 7.66 lakh were identified as deceased, and 2.04 lakh were enrolled at multiple places.
