Indian-Origin Driver Sentenced for London Road Fatality

Indian origin man admits manslaughter over – A 28-year-old man of Indian descent has confessed to causing the deaths of a couple in their late sixties during a fatal collision on a London road. The incident, which occurred in Hillingdon on the night of June 1, involved a black BMW crashing into a white Volkswagen Golf. Maninder Singh Brar, the accused, appeared in Isleworth Crown Court and admitted to two manslaughter charges, as well as offenses related to uninsured driving, dangerous handling of stolen goods, and failing to stop after the accident.

Tragic Consequences of the Crash

According to the Metropolitan Police, Brar fled the scene after the collision, leaving the Golf’s occupants to suffer severe injuries. Mohammad Hagila, 63, succumbed to his wounds at the crash site, while his wife, Dil Jan Hagila, 62, was hospitalized with critical injuries and later passed away. The police emphasized the gravity of the incident, calling it “truly tragic.”

“Two innocent members of the public have lost their lives,” stated Acting Detective Inspector Fiaz Janjua, who is overseeing the investigation. “Brar’s guilty plea underscores the severity of his actions and the profound impact on the victims’ families.”

A third individual, a 29-year-old man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the crash. Brar, who was detained on June 6, is scheduled for sentencing on August 23. The case highlights the dangers of reckless driving, with Janjua expressing condolences to the Hagila family, who are grappling with an immense personal loss.

US Truck Driver Faces Long Sentence for Multi-Vehicle Collision

Meanwhile, an Indian-origin truck driver in the United States has received a four-year-and-eight-month prison term for a chain reaction crash that killed three people and injured four in San Bernardino County, California. Jashanpreet Singh, 22, pleaded guilty in June to three counts of vehicular manslaughter due to gross negligence. The accident, which happened in October 2025, occurred when Singh’s Freightliner truck struck multiple vehicles at high speed.

“Traffic had slowed on the freeway, but Singh failed to brake, resulting in a series of collisions,” noted the California Highway Patrol. Dashcam footage revealed the truck speeding before colliding with other vehicles, including a lorry, and ultimately crashing into a disabled truck on the hard shoulder after crossing two lanes.

An eyewitness described the impact as sounding like a “big explosion,” capturing the moment the truck plowed into vehicles moments before the crash. The incident serves as a stark example of how unsafe driving can lead to widespread devastation, affecting both individuals and the broader community.
