Abhijeet Dipke Breaks Silence on US Education Funding
Theindiapostdaily.com – Abhijeet Dipke breaks silence on US education financing after returning to India in June. The Cockroach Janta Party founder clarified that his Master of Science in Public Relations at Boston University’s College of Communication was funded through a combination of scholarship and educational loan. This response addresses ongoing questions about how he paid for his foreign studies while leading one of India’s largest protest movements.
During an interview with Barkha Dutt for MOJO, Dipke explained his financial arrangement clearly.
“I received scholarship form Boston University and took an education loan to fund the rest of my expenses. I have to pay the loan,”
he stated, directly addressing concerns about his foreign education financing.
Scholarship Documentation Revealed
Dipke provided documentary evidence to support his claims about education funding. The scholarship certificate indicated that Boston University granted him a Dean’s Scholarship valued at $12,500 per semester across three semesters, totaling $37,500. This disclosure followed a request from a Gujarat-based RTI activist seeking clarification on his educational funding.
Questions About Father’s Financial Capacity
Amit Tiwari, an activist from Surat, raised concerns about how Bhagwanrao Dipke, the party founder’s father, could afford to send his son overseas for higher education. Bhagwanrao Dipke served as a junior engineer with a monthly salary ranging between ₹60,000 and ₹65,000.
“I have complained to the Maharashtra Government that Bhagwanrao Dipke was a Junior Engineer at MIDC. So, if he received a salary of ₹60,000-65,000, how was he able to afford the education of his children in the US?”
Tiwari also directed correspondence to both the Election Commission of India and the Central GST regarding the legal defense fund established by senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal. The activist noted that the Cockroach Janta Party operates as a political entity despite remaining unregistered.
“The Cockroach Janta Party is an unregistered entity but is operating as a political party….If ₹1 crore has been pledged to it as a legal defence fund, then the EC should verify whether the CJP is registered with it under section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951,”
CJP’s Funding Transparency Plans
Addressing questions about the party’s financial sources during the Jantar Mantar demonstrations, Dipke outlined future funding strategies.
“We will raise funds thriugh crowd-funding,”
he informed Dutt, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to transparency.
Dipke further clarified that participants at Jantar Mantar independently distributed food supplies. He also highlighted the supportive attitude of Delhi police personnel toward the movement.
“I won’t lie to you, three people covering their faces with masks came to us and told us that they were thankful for the protests. Lower ranks were sympathetic towards us, the higher ranks were taking orders from Home Ministry,”
he recounted.
Background and Political Journey
At 30 years old, Dipke emerged as the public face of the massive protests initiated by the Cockroach Janta Party following the Chief Justice of India’s ‘Cockroach’ remark. The movement ultimately contributed to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Before pursuing higher studies in the United States, Dipke completed his journalism education in Pune. He mentioned that after earning his Master’s degree from Boston University, he explored various employment opportunities. His father previously served as an engineer with Maharashtra’s electricity department before retiring, while his mother maintains a small home tuition center.
From 2020 to 2023, Dipke contributed to the Aam Aadmi Party, managing social media strategy and election campaigns. He played an active role in the party’s meme-based digital campaigns during the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, targeting young voters with political messaging. The Aam Aadmi Party secured victory in those Delhi elections.
