Trump Rejects His Own Justice Department’s Pool Damage Assessment

Theindiapostdaily.com – Trump rejects his own Justice Department’s conclusions regarding the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool controversy. The US President publicly criticized former ally Jeanine Pirro on Saturday after she agreed to dismiss a case against a former Olympic canoeist accused of vandalising the landmark’s newly refurbished pool.

Trump stated he completely disagrees with findings by his own Justice Department that attribute the peeling lining of the $14 million pool refurbishment to faulty installation rather than deliberate acts of vandalism. “I disagree 100% with Jeanine Pirro, the US Attorney for the District of Columbia, on the Reflecting Pool,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Contradictory Evidence and Timeline

The President claimed the incident involved pure vandalism affecting the grass, which displayed an “86 47” emblem in giant letters, along with other surrounding elements. He attached previously circulated US Park Police footage to his post, asserting it showed individuals damaging the pool while maintenance crews removed algae. “Look for yourselves at the VANDALISM that took place at The Reflecting Pool,” he wrote, noting that material was being cut with knives or box cutters.

The President’s pushback arrived a day after the Justice Department conceded in a legal submission that the landmark’s refurbishment was “hasty and botched.” Federal prosecutors confirmed they were dropping criminal proceedings against former US Olympic canoeist David Hearn, CNN reported. Two other individuals among the three swept up in the administration’s broader campaign against alleged pool vandals also had misdemeanour charges dismissed.

Despite the prosecutor’s filing, Trump argued that the government was minimising the role of deliberate damage. He ordered the high-priced renovations to the landmark in May, including applying a bright blue coating to the pool bed for Independence Day celebrations. Pirro’s office assigned responsibility directly to other federal entities, including the Department of the Interior, stating that damage resulted from a botched installation rather than vandalism.

“A recent visual inspection showed damage throughout the Reflecting Pool, even in the middle of the pool, where a vandal would not likely attempt to peel the lining,” the filing stated.

Without presenting supporting evidence, Trump has repeatedly alleged that “sick, deranged” criminals ruined the site and asserted they deserved “years in jail.” The chronological sequence detailed by prosecutors directly contradicts the President’s claims, CNN reported. Initial records show sections of the blue coating began detaching over a week before Hearn visited the memorial on June 11.
