“The rise in river flows is, therefore, a natural hydrological response to heavy rainfall and not the result of any deliberate action by India. Attempts to portray a weather-driven flood event as an upstream intervention are factually incorrect, technically untenable and contradicted by Pakistan’s own official flood advisories.”
Jaiswal further explained that the Pakistani flood advisory indicated high flows at Marala were expected to continue before gradually receding as rainfall patterns over the catchment evolved. This timeline aligns perfectly with natural hydrological responses rather than sudden, deliberate water releases from Indian reservoirs.
Regarding allegations that India withheld crucial flood warnings, Jaiswal clarified that river flows during this period did not reach extraordinary discharge levels that would necessitate special flood warnings. The observed flow rates remained consistent with prevailing monsoon conditions across the upper catchments, as independently verified by Pakistan’s flood forecasting authorities.
