The clip captures the officer warning demonstrators that they would face false drug cases if they returned to the protest site, according to PTI reports.

Following a thorough verification of the incident, authorities confirmed that the concerned driver was removed from his current assignment pending the outcome of the inquiry. The financial capital of India has witnessed numerous demonstrations in solidarity with student protests organized by the Cockroach Janta Party in the national capital. These gatherings occurred at multiple locations including Shivaji Park, Chaityabhoomi, Chembur, and Shiv Sena Bhavan, even without formal permissions from local authorities.

The Viral Threat Goes Public

In the widely shared recording, the officer—identified as Pawan Sangle—can be clearly heard cautioning young participants against attending further rallies. He made bold promises to “ruin their lives” by framing them in a “false drug case.” Furthermore, he warned that they would face difficulties securing bail and would have to “rot in jail.” Meanwhile, the student protesters seated in the rear of the vehicle responded with smiles and light giggles to his stern warnings.

“If I see you again at the protest, there won’t be anyone worse than me. I will plant 50 grams of powder (drugs) in your pockets. Then your life will be ruined. It will ensure that you won’t get bail,” the cop is heard saying in the video.

Who Is Pawan Sangle?

Pawan Sangle serves as a driver within the Mumbai Police’s Motor Transport department and is currently posted at Sion police station. He had been assigned to Shivaji Park as part of the contingent accompanying senior officials during the demonstration period.

The video, captured by one of the detained students inside a police van after being collected from the protest venue, allegedly depicts Sangle advising the youngsters to avoid future demonstrations. Acting decisively, Mumbai Police initiated a departmental investigation into the matter. Before the probe finishes, Sangle has been moved to the police control room and taken off active duty.

According to PTI, Mumbai police filed 13 First Information Reports between July 18 and July 22 related to the continuing protests. The charges included unlawful assembly and breaching prohibitory orders, with approximately 400 individuals booked.

Political Parties Respond Strongly

Posting the video online, the Mumbai Congress claimed the incident went beyond mere intimidation of students. They characterized it as a direct assault on “democratic rights.” “Raising one’s voice is not a crime. Students’ questions should be answered with accountability, not threats,” the party stated in a message on X.

The Aam Aadmi Party also directed criticism toward the BJP regarding this episode. In a statement aimed at Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the party remarked, “In Delhi, your government sent its goons to crush the students’ demands, and now such a despicable act in Maharashtra?” They cautioned that the ruling party’s time in power was running out.
