At 9:18 pm Pakistan Standard Time (16:18 GMT), it alerted air traffic controllers of the problem while en route to Karachi. Contact was lost just three minutes later, as radar detected a sudden and steep descent. The plane was approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi at the time.

Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 reveals dramatic changes in altitude during the final minutes. The plane reportedly dropped about 5,000 feet in under a minute, then climbed roughly 6,000 feet within 30 seconds before entering a catastrophic dive from 36,550 feet. Its last transmission indicated it was only 1,100 feet above sea level, descending at a rate of 22,400 feet per minute—an unusually steep trajectory.

The Boeing 737-400, a model dating back to the 1980s, has been in service for over two decades. Originally delivered to Aeroflot in Russia in 1999 as a passenger jet, it was later converted to cargo in 2012. K2 Airways acquired the aircraft in 2024, making it the airline’s sole operational plane. Its previous flight occurred on 28 June, according to tracking records.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged authorities to intensify the search, expressing “heartfelt condolences” to the families of the crew. The aircraft operator confirmed five people were on board: two pilots, two engineers, and one support staff member. While their status is still under investigation, the government has prioritized recovery efforts.
