The Air India plane, a wide-body Boeing 777-300 ER, was brought to a halt just in time. Meanwhile, the Air India Express aircraft, a narrow-body Boeing 737 MAX 8, was also stopped at a safe distance. The DGCA reported that the Air India flight VT-TQV, operating from Mumbai, had mistakenly entered taxiway ‘P’ instead of following the correct route on taxiway ‘G’ toward the international apron. The IndiGo aircraft VT-IST, on flight 6E 5160, was promptly stopped to avoid a collision.

“The crew of the Air India A320 took immediate action to stop the plane after realizing the error, while the IndiGo flight was brought to a safe halt at a distance,” stated the DGCA. “Both aircraft were then towed to their respective parking stands without any further issues.”

This incident prompted the DGCA to review its procedures for managing aircraft movements during landing and takeoff cycles. The airlines involved also released statements reaffirming their adherence to safety standards and their efforts to prevent future occurrences.
