Bengaluru Man Quits Corporate Job Over 6% Raise: ‘No Job, No Backup Plan’
Theindiapostdaily.com – When a Bengaluru-based professional shared his decision to walk away from a corporate job without a backup plan, it ignited a wave of online conversations. The video, posted by Humans of Bombay, captured the essence of his frustration—years of relentless work, a meager 6% salary increase, and the realization that his current role was no longer sustainable. His candid reflection on the struggle to balance professional demands with personal well-being struck a chord with many, highlighting the growing disillusionment with corporate culture.
A Defiant Exit from the Corporate Grind
The man, identified as Pramod Paul, made his choice public in a video that quickly went viral. In it, he openly declared his resignation, emphasizing his lack of contingency plans.
“Look at this smile,” he said. “The day has arrived—I’m resigning. No job offers secured, no backup plan, nothing at all,”
he added, underscoring the emotional weight behind his decision. His story resonated deeply with viewers, many of whom had faced similar situations of burnout and underpayment.
Workload vs. Compensation: A Disparity
Pramod explained that his workload had expanded significantly, yet his salary remained stagnant.
“I was given the responsibilities of a senior analyst, the title of an analyst, and the compensation of an intern,”
he recounted, describing the disconnect between his efforts and earnings. The 6% annual raise he received felt insufficient, especially when compared to the financial independence of local tea vendors earning ₹2 lakhs monthly.
“All that anxiety, depression, and overwork—just for a 6% hike? That’s when I knew I had to quit,”
he concluded, encapsulating his resolve.
Family Sacrifices and Financial Burden
His journey to this point was shaped by the sacrifices of his parents. Growing up in Kolar, a small town near Bengaluru, Pramod’s family relied on his father’s pastoral income and his mother’s homemaking efforts to support their education.
“My parents took heavy loans to fund my brother and my studies. The pressure of repaying that debt fell on me,”
he admitted. After graduation, he took on a wealth manager role while also taking out a ₹8 lakh loan to help repay his family’s obligations, further intensifying his sense of obligation.
Corporate Acquisitions and Stagnant Growth
Despite years of dedication, Pramod found himself in a stagnant environment. After joining a well-known financial firm, he spent nearly four years climbing the ranks, only to witness a shift in the company’s priorities following a major acquisition.
“The management changed, and the greed grew. Promotions became scarce, and the pressure to deliver more kept rising,”
he said. This cultural transformation left him feeling undervalued, with his salary failing to match his contributions. “I was doing the work of a senior analyst, yet receiving a mere ₹2,000 hike,” he added, illustrating the growing inequality in his workplace.
Content Creation as a Coping Strategy
As stress mounted, Pramod turned to content creation to process his experiences. Filming videos with his mother became a way to channel his frustrations and share his story with a broader audience.
“I began joking about the corporate grind and filming my thoughts. My videos gained 100K followers, and that was both a financial and mental relief,”
he revealed. However, even with his newfound online visibility, the demands of his job persisted, pushing him closer to his breaking point. “The pressure to work overtime never stopped,” he noted, highlighting the relentless pace of corporate life.
Embracing Uncertainty as a Choice
On August 15, Pramod marked his final day at the company, stepping into an uncertain future. While he acknowledged the financial strain of still owing ₹3 lakhs on his loan, he felt it was worth the risk.
“I am completely lost now, but I choose uncertainty over the certainty of being exploited,”
he said, reflecting on his decision to prioritize his well-being. His story has since inspired discussions about the importance of aligning one’s job with personal values, even if it means forgoing a stable paycheck. “No job, no backup plan” has become a rallying cry for those disillusioned with the corporate grind, urging others to reconsider their own career paths.
