Gandhi’s critique underscores a growing concern over India’s diplomatic alignment with Israel, which she claims has shifted away from its traditional partners in the Middle East. She pointed out that the Modi government’s recent visit to Israel and its support for Israeli policies have contrasted sharply with India’s historical ties to Palestine and its advocacy for a two-state solution. “India’s global influence is being questioned when it fails to speak out against mass atrocities,” she said, emphasizing that the government’s silence sends a message of indifference to the plight of Palestinian children. The Congress leader also noted that this shift may weaken India’s role in fostering regional peace and justice.

Genocide Allegations and UN Reports

Gandhi cited the UN’s Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, which concluded in September 2025 that Israel was committing genocide in Gaza. The same commission, now chaired by Justice S. Muralidhar, reiterated these findings in June 2026, stating that Israeli actions aimed to erase Palestinian existence by disproportionately targeting civilians. “The 94-page report paints a grim picture of the devastation wrought by Israel in Gaza,” she emphasized, noting that over 20,000 children have been killed and more than 44,000 wounded in the conflict. These numbers, she argued, reflect a systematic effort to obliterate Palestinian society and culture.

Deliberate Targeting of Civilian Populations

According to Gandhi, the Modi government’s silence has allowed the continuation of Israel’s “brutal campaign” against Gaza, where 27% of casualties are children. She highlighted that boys were found with bullets in their heads and necks, underscoring the deliberate strategy of attacking minors. Additionally, she pointed to the destruction of 97% of Gaza’s schools as evidence of the education system’s collapse, which she described as a critical blow to the region’s future. “This isn’t just a war; it’s a genocidal strategy,” Gandhi said, stressing that India’s moral authority is at stake if it doesn’t take a firm stand against such actions.
