Piyush Goyal to Visit UK for Trade Agreement Finalization

Theindiapostdaily.com – India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, is set to travel to the United Kingdom from 25 to 27 June to prepare for the implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Double Contribution Convention (DCC), which will take effect on 15 July.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

During the three-day trip, Goyal will convene a bilateral session with Peter Kyle, the UK’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade, to assess readiness for the agreements and enhance economic partnerships. The discussions will emphasize aligning regulatory frameworks, simplifying cross-border customs procedures, and establishing administrative systems necessary for the agreements’ execution.

Focus on Market Access and Social Security

The ministers will evaluate progress on CETA’s tariff reduction commitments, which aim to boost Indian exports in the UK. They will also outline strategies for the DCC, designed to resolve dual social security obligations for temporary workers. Additional topics include expanding mutual market access in critical service sectors and measures to foster trade and investment collaboration.

Engaging with Global Investors

Goyal’s itinerary includes interactions with industry leaders and investors to showcase India’s economic potential. He will keynote the opening plenary of the India Global Forum, addressing the theme, “Capital, Innovation and the UK-India Moment,” and highlight opportunities from the CETA. The minister will also meet executives from HSBC and Rolls-Royce to explore joint ventures and manufacturing partnerships.

Later, he will attend a business plenary hosted by the UK-India Business Council, featuring representatives from Tata, TCS, Prudential, De Beers, and Baker McKenzie. A separate roundtable led by Asia House will involve financial and industrial institutions such as J.P. Morgan, Standard Chartered, Lloyds, Morgan Stanley, and Arup, focusing on India’s investment landscape and integration into global supply chains.

The visit will conclude with dialogues between Goyal and an Indian industry delegation, British-Indian business groups, and international education organizations like GEDU. The ministry stated that this trip reinforces India’s dedication to global commerce and supports the target of achieving $120 billion in bilateral trade by 2030.
