Kerala Budget 2026-27: Ports, Aviation Hub, and MSMEs at the Core of Satheesan’s Growth Strategy – Key Highlights

Theindiapostdaily.com – On Friday, Kerala’s Chief Minister and Finance Minister VD Satheesan unveiled the revised state budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, marking the UDF government’s initial financial blueprint. The plan envisions a transformative five-year journey to redefine Kerala’s development trajectory through initiatives targeting healthcare, education, employment, social welfare, and infrastructure.

“This revised budget will act as a strategic guide for welfare programs over the next five years. The UDF government’s mandate is clear, and it is now tasked with delivering on that vision,” Satheesan stated.

The budget emphasizes a multi-pronged approach, integrating technological innovation and strategic investments to tackle existing challenges. Satheesan reiterated the government’s commitment to advancing public health, education, and social sectors while addressing economic hurdles.

“Kerala has made global strides in social development, but recent years have seen increasing pressure on these sectors. Stagnant indicators and rising youth unemployment require urgent attention,” he noted.

Despite financial limitations, the administration has already taken significant steps toward fulfilling its promises. Satheesan highlighted the implementation of six Indira Guarantees, including free transportation for women in KSRTC buses and a dedicated department for senior citizen welfare. Additional measures include higher honorariums for frontline workers in healthcare and education.

“We must leverage the potential of senior citizens to foster a silver economy. Modern strategies are essential to overcome Kerala’s financial constraints and drive sustainable growth,” he added.

Key Highlights from the Budget

₹400 crore has been allocated to Mission Samudra, aiming to connect all major and minor ports to establish Kerala as a coastal logistics hub. Vizhinjam port will play a central role in this effort.

₹100 crore is earmarked for a Rare Earth and Critical Minerals corridor in southern Kerala, enhancing the state’s resource base. A separate ₹200 crore fund will boost Kerala’s status as a key aviation and logistics center.

Support for small businesses is a priority, with ₹100 crore dedicated to fostering MSME growth. Additionally, ₹100 crore will create a film city in Kochi, named after JC Daniel, to bolster the entertainment sector.

₹50 crore is allocated to a Tribal University in Wayanad and an Indigenous Knowledge zone, promoting cultural and educational preservation. Lastly, ₹50 crore will develop an international-standard football stadium in the Malabar region.
