Nirmala Sitharaman Challenges Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Economic Tsunami’ Claim, Emphasizes India’s Progress

Theindiapostdaily.com – During a gathering of BJP party workers at the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Samavesha in the city, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman criticized Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. She argued that his warnings about an “economic tsunami” were undermining the nation’s achievements and progress, despite significant hurdles like the pandemic and regional conflicts.

According to PTI, Sitharaman highlighted that Gandhi’s portrayal of an imminent crisis contrasted sharply with the reality of India’s economic resilience. “Whenever the Congress leader of opposition addresses the Lok Sabha, it is only to decry everything and diminish the accomplishments of India’s people, as if he is challenging Prime Minister Modi or the central government,” she remarked.

“On the contrary, quarter after quarter, year after year, India is the fastest growing economy,” Sitharaman stated.

The minister stressed that the assertion of India’s status as the world’s fastest-growing economy wasn’t just a government claim, but a reflection of the country’s GDP figures. She also cited the International Monetary Fund’s recognition of India’s economic momentum.

Sitharaman warned that Rahul Gandhi’s persistent criticisms could mislead citizens about the nation’s economic stability. “Even amid geopolitical tensions and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, India continues to advance,” she said, pointing to uninterrupted fuel and supply chain operations.

She elaborated on how global tensions impact not only oil prices but also shipping and trade. “Insurance premiums soar in conflict zones, and whether a vessel is empty or loaded with crude, the costs of protection have risen dramatically,” she explained.

Rahul Gandhi’s Economic Tsunami Warning

At an event hosted by the Adivasi Congress in Indira Bhawan, attended by tribal leaders, Gandhi on June 3 warned of an “economic tsunami” looming. He claimed rising prices and public pressure were signaling the start of a major crisis.

“This is just the beginning. India will face an economic downturn unlike any seen before,” Gandhi stated during the address.

BJP’s Development Achievements

Sitharaman underscored the Modi government’s focus on growth and welfare over the past 12 years. She cited reductions in multidimensional poverty, expanded tap water access, improved sanitation coverage, and initiatives like free LPG connections and food security programs.

“Over 25 crore Indians have escaped multidimensional poverty. Extreme poverty rates have fallen from 29.17% in 2013-14 to 11.28% today,” she noted. “More than 12 crore household toilets have been constructed under rural sanitation schemes, achieving nearly universal coverage.”

Calling the Viksit Bharat campaign a collective effort, Sitharaman urged BJP members to promote the government’s accomplishments. “This movement represents our path to economic freedom and true Swaraj. Everyone must contribute to it,” she concluded.
