The man was observed wearing a Brigadier’s uniform and claiming to hold a senior position within the armed forces.

Sting Operation Details

The Hindustan Times reported that Army personnel orchestrated a sophisticated trap to capture the fake brigadier. The suspect was said to have moved through Shahjahanpur and surrounding areas, posing as a military official to engage with young individuals preparing for recruitment exams. A fabricated event was organized at the Shaheed Museum in the Cantonment zone to lure him into revealing his identity.

Identifying the Accused

The arrested individual, Aryan Verma, was identified by authorities after tracking his movements in military attire since April. Verma had been actively presenting himself as a high-ranking officer, accompanied by a driver and two bodyguards who he claimed were National Security Guard commandos. His deception was uncovered when he arrived at the planned meeting in an SUV, donning the uniform on-site.

Items and Deception

During the arrest, officials seized Verma’s forged military uniform, which featured stars and flags typically reserved for senior ranks. He also carried a replica pistol and a regimental cane to enhance his false persona. A government-issued ID card, allegedly bearing the seal of the Armed Forces Medical College’s dean, was found in his possession, raising suspicions of forgery.

What Officials Found Out

“After recovering his documents, we determined Verma was 21 years old and had been residing in Delhi,” said Superintendent of Police Saurabh Dixit.

Verma had reportedly been attempting the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for medical admissions but failed it multiple times. Despite this, he continued to project an image of authority, using his fabricated identity to gain trust and influence aspiring recruits.

Investigation Progress

The case has been handed over to an Army intelligence team from Bareilly to investigate further. Authorities are probing the scale of his deception, how he acquired the uniform and credentials, and whether others were involved in the scheme. Once interrogated, Verma will be transferred to police custody for formal proceedings.

Verma’s father works in the horticulture department, and his mother is employed as a school teacher. The motive for his impersonation remains under scrutiny, with investigators seeking to uncover the full extent of his ruse.
