Theindiapostdaily.com – A four storey housing building collapse in Delhi’s Seemapuri triggered a major rescue operation after several people were feared trapped beneath the rubble. Fire personnel, police, municipal teams and local residents joined efforts to reach occupants and clear the damaged structure safely.
The front portion of the residential building collapsed during the afternoon. Delhi Fire Services received a call at around 3.30 pm and sent fire tenders to the site, where search and rescue work continued.
Residents Taken to Hospital
Officials said around five to six people had been taken to hospital as the operation continued. Authorities were still assessing the number of people inside the building when it collapsed and the extent of their injuries.
Shahdara DCP Rajendra Prasad Meena said rescue workers could see two to three people in the wreckage and were communicating with them while attempting to bring them out.
“So far, around five to six people have been taken to the hospital. The rescue operation is still underway. We will know once all the information is compiled. At present, two to three people can still be seen inside, and they are also communicating with us.”
Crane and JCB Machines Used in Rescue Work
JCB vehicles, cranes and other equipment were deployed near the site of the four storey housing building collapse. Rescue teams carefully removed damaged sections of the structure, as rapid movement of debris could create further risks for survivors and emergency workers.
Saleem, a local resident who said he lived in the collapsed property, said his son-in-law, daughter and two children were rescued from the debris. He said other people remained trapped as teams worked to remove the roof with a crane.
“This was our house. It suddenly collapsed. We managed to get quite a few people out. My own son-in-law was trapped inside, but he was safely rescued. My daughter was also inside, and she has been rescued as well. Two children have also been rescued.”
Structure Said to Be 40 to 50 Years Old
Pankaj Luthra, the Municipal Councillor for Jhilmil, said authorities had been informed that the building was approximately 40 to 50 years old. He said police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and other administration teams were involved in the rescue operation.
The priority after the four storey housing building collapse was to locate survivors, secure the affected area and determine whether any remaining portion of the structure posed a danger. Officials were expected to establish a clearer account of those affected after rescue work was completed.
Traffic Affected Around Seemapuri
Delhi Traffic Police said traffic was affected near Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads because emergency vehicles and rescue equipment needed access to the site.
“A multi story building has collapsed in Seemapuri and rescue teams are working at the site. Traffic is affected around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads. Every clear lane gives an ambulance and rescue vehicle a faster way through.”
