GSB Seva Mandal Raises Insurance Cover for Ganeshotsav 2026

Theindiapostdaily.com – Mumbai’s GSB Seva Mandal will mark its 72nd Ganeshotsav with an insurance cover of ₹703.27 crore, a substantial increase from the ₹474 crore protection arranged for the 2025 celebrations. The higher cover is intended to support safety and security arrangements as large numbers of devotees gather at the King’s Circle venue during the five-day festival.

The mandal, widely known as one of Mumbai’s wealthiest Ganesh mandals, will celebrate Ganeshotsav from September 14 to September 18. Devotees will be able to see the idol for the first time at the Virat Darshan ceremony, scheduled for 8 pm on September 12.

The statement by mandal spokesperson Amit Pai underlines the scale of planning required for a celebration that attracts thousands of visitors. Public Ganeshotsav events in Mumbai bring together worship, volunteer service, community food programmes and complex crowd-management needs, especially during peak darshan hours.

Gold, Silver and Devotee Contributions

The Maha Ganpati idol will be adorned with more than 66 kg of gold ornaments and about 335 kg of silver decorations. Precious stones will also form part of the display. These valuables are generally contributed by devotees and sevadars, the volunteers who help organise the annual celebration.

Despite the elaborate ornamentation, the idol itself has been created with eco-friendly materials. The decision reflects a growing focus among organisers on reducing the environmental impact of religious festivities while continuing long-standing cultural and devotional practices.

Ganesh Chaturthi is observed across Mumbai for 10 days this year, beginning on September 14. Individual mandals may follow different immersion schedules, and GSB Seva Mandal’s programme will conclude after five days. Its King’s Circle pandal remains a major destination for worshippers during the festival period.

Food Service Expected to Reach More Than Two Lakh People

Alongside worship and rituals, the mandal’s annadaan seva will serve food to more than 40,000 people every day. Over the full five-day event, organisers expect prasad to reach over two lakh devotees.

The food initiative is a central part of the mandal’s public service activity during Ganeshotsav. For visitors, prasad distribution and community meals are closely connected with the festival’s emphasis on devotion, hospitality and collective participation.

Religious ceremonies at the venue will follow Vedic traditions and scriptures, with prayers and rituals planned throughout the celebrations. The programme will combine formal worship with the steady flow of devotees arriving for darshan.

The mandal has also moved away from printed receipts and adopted digital receipts in an effort to cut paper use and reduce waste. This shift is a practical sustainability measure during an event involving large numbers of offerings, donations and visitor interactions.

Mumbai Police Set Up Layered Festival Security

A citywide, multi-tier security plan has also been activated for Ganeshotsav 2026. Mumbai Police have deployed seven Additional Commissioners of Police, 37 Deputy Commissioners, 52 Assistant Commissioners, 2,650 officers and 14,150 policemen for festival security.

Additional support will include State Reserve Police Force platoons, Quick Response Teams, Riot Control Teams and Home Guards at important locations. Security is set to be intensified on immersion day, when processions and crowds typically require extra policing and traffic management.

Police have asked residents and visitors to remain alert in crowded spaces and cooperate with personnel on duty. People who notice an unattended or suspicious object have been urged to inform the police immediately. Emergency assistance is available through helpline numbers 100 and 112.

Lalbaugcha Raja Draws Early Attention

Elsewhere in Mumbai, the first look of Lalbaugcha Raja was unveiled on Friday ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi. The idol is among the city’s most recognised symbols of the festival and draws millions of devotees for darshan each year.

Depicted seated on a throne, Lalbaugcha Raja features a calm, benevolent and affectionate expression. Its unveiling is one of the most anticipated pre-festival moments in Mumbai, signalling the start of preparations for the city’s largest annual devotional gatherings.

For many residents, Ganeshotsav is more than a religious observance. It is a period in which neighbourhood mandals, families, volunteers and public agencies work together around worship, cultural activity and visitor safety. The festival commemorates the birth of Lord Ganesha and traditionally involves installing idols in homes and public pandals, offering prayers, holding cultural programmes and ending with immersion ceremonies.

With major mandals preparing distinctive idols, service initiatives and security arrangements, Mumbai is set for another extensive Ganesh Chaturthi season beginning September 14.
