₹35,000 Crore in Development Projects Dedicated Across Gujarat and Maharashtra

The Vadodara programme forms part of a broader two-state itinerary that also carries the Prime Minister to Maharashtra. Across both destinations, Modi is scheduled to lay foundation stones, inaugurate, and dedicate infrastructure worth more than ₹35,000 crore. The single largest component of that portfolio is the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), whose completion represents a decade-long effort to build a high-capacity rail artery linking India’s western industrial belt to its principal seaport.

Western Dedicated Freight Corridor: Final Sections Go Live

In Vadodara, the Prime Minister will dedicate three remaining segments of the WDFC to the nation. Collectively, these stretches span 326 route kilometres and were constructed at a cost exceeding ₹20,700 crore. The segments are:

New Sanand (North) to New Makarpura; New Umbergaon to New Saphale; and New Saphale to New JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust).

Once these links become operational, the Dedicated Freight Corridor network will be fully functional along its entire designed length. The direct rail connection to JNPA is projected to accelerate the movement of export-import cargo, tighten the coupling between inland industrial clusters and coastal ports, reduce per-unit logistics expenditure, and relieve sustained pressure on Mumbai’s already saturated railway grid. More broadly, the corridor is expected to strengthen multimodal connectivity, shorten transit times, and enable smoother inter-regional cargo flows across the country.

As part of the same ceremony, the Prime Minister will flag off freight train services originating from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon, and New JNPT in Mumbai. A new passenger train service between Tanda Road and Vadodara (Pratapnagar) will also be inaugurated.

New Rail Lines and Capacity-Boosting Projects

Separately, the Jobat–Tanda Road new rail line — developed under the Chhota Udepur–Dhar project — will be dedicated to the nation. This line is designed to bring remote and tribal areas of Alirajpur district into the national rail network for the first time.

The Prime Minister will also lay foundation stones for three railway works totalling 329 kilometres and valued at over ₹9,700 crore. These comprise the Vadodara–Ratlam third and fourth lines, the Miyagam Karjan–Choranda–Malsar gauge conversion, and the Vishwamitri–Dabhoi doubling project. Together they are intended to expand both passenger and freight capacity, alleviate existing congestion on the western corridor, and deepen rail connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

National Highway Upgrades

Three highway projects aggregating roughly ₹1,780 crore will receive foundation stones. They include the six-laning of the Kamrej–Chalthan segment of NH-48; construction of additional structures — among them major bridges spanning the Tapi and Narmada rivers — on the Vadodara–Surat stretch of NH-48; and grade-separated interchanges at the Abhava, Mindhola, and Khajod junctions along NH-53.

State-Level Infrastructure and Welfare Works

Approximately ₹2,600 crore worth of Government of Gujarat initiatives will also feature in the programme. Foundation stones will be laid for the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road Phase II, a 110 MW floating solar installation at Kadana Dam, and a new office complex for the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, among other works. Inaugurations will cover housing units delivered under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and a water-supply scheme serving eleven villages in eastern Vadodara.

Mumbai Stop: Global Fintech Fest 2026

The itinerary extends to Mumbai, where the Prime Minister will inaugurate the seventh edition of the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026, scheduled for 8–11 September 2026. Since its inception in 2020, GFF has grown into one of the world’s largest annual fintech conferences, convening policymakers, regulators, central banks, financial institutions, fintech firms, and technology companies in a single forum. The event positions India as a host venue for global conversations on digital finance, regulatory innovation, and cross-border payment systems.

The convergence of a digital ticketing experiment, the final activation of a ₹20,000-crore freight corridor, and a suite of rail, highway, energy, and welfare projects in a single day underscores how infrastructure delivery and civic technology are increasingly being packaged together in national-level political programming. For Vadodara specifically, the completion of the WDFC’s western terminus is expected to reshape the city’s role as a logistics node, shifting freight volumes away from congested road corridors and onto a purpose-built rail artery with direct port access.
