In a July speech on election security, he went further, declaring that “mail-in ballots are inherently corrupt” — a remark he has tied to his ongoing, unsubstantiated claims that the 2020 presidential contest was stolen from him.

What Is at Stake in Tuesday’s Primary

Three states are holding primaries on Tuesday, 18 August. Florida’s contest will select Republican nominees for governor and Senate, and voters will also choose candidates in newly drawn congressional districts. Those boundaries, pushed through by GOP Governor Ron DeSantis, hand Republicans an edge in 24 of the state’s 28 districts.

The gubernatorial race features a crowded field of candidates seeking to succeed the term-limited DeSantis.
