Theindiapostdaily.com – Sangeetha, the spouse of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, has formally withdrawn her divorce petition from a family court in Chengalpattu. The news agency PTI reported that the court disposed of the case on Friday after Sangeetha appeared via video-conferencing and explained her decision to drop the proceedings.

Background of the Legal Case

The local court had previously adjourned the divorce proceedings on June 15, with the next hearing scheduled for August 7. According to official court sources cited by the agency, Sangeetha submitted written reasons for not continuing with her case, leading to its disposal as withdrawn.

Grounds for Divorce

In February 2026, Sangeetha had filed the petition under the Special Marriage Act of 1954, requesting dissolution of her marriage. The legal document contained several allegations against the Chief Minister.

Sangeetha claimed that Vijay is involved in an extramarital affair with a female co-star. She maintained that this caused her “deep emotional pain and mental suffering, amounting to betrayal and violation of marital trust.”

The petition further alleged adultery, mental cruelty, neglect, and desertion. It stated that the marriage had irretrievably broken down due to these issues.

A Long-Standing Relationship

Vijay and Sangeetha, a Sri Lankan Tamil, tied the knot on August 25, 1999, well before his political ascent. Their union was first registered in the United Kingdom in 1998, followed by a traditional wedding ceremony in Chennai the next year.

The couple shares two children: a son named Jason Sanjay and a daughter called Dhivya Sasha. Sangeetha was known to be an ardent admirer of Vijay before their marriage. Their relationship blossomed in the late 1990s after Vijay achieved fame through the success of the film Poove Unakkaga in 1996.

At that time, Sangeetha, who was residing in the UK, traveled to Chennai to congratulate Vijay on his achievement. This visit marked the beginning of their close relationship, which eventually led to their marriage.
