Theindiapostdaily.com – Mohammad Umar, a 24-year-old companion of the deceased Aban Ahmad, has shared harrowing details about the road accident that occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi district on Thursday. The collision claimed the lives of Aban and his friend Sonu, while Umar himself survived with injuries.

“The car was travelling at a high speed, and the driver lost control,” said PTI quoted Umar, 24, as saying, who was lying on a stretcher.

Aban Ahmad, just 20 years old, was the youngest son of the late gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad. His 25-year-old friend Sonu, whose father is known as Raja, perished alongside him in the devastating incident.

Victims Transported to Prayagraj for Final Rites

Following a comprehensive post-mortem examination conducted at Jhansi Medical College by a three-member medical panel, family members arranged to transport both deceased individuals to Prayagraj late Thursday evening.

Circle Officer (City) Ramveer Singh explained that injured passengers were moved via ambulance at approximately 9:30 pm after the family requested the transfer. This allowed them to continue receiving medical treatment in Prayagraj. The bodies of the two deceased were subsequently transported to the city shortly before midnight to prepare for final funeral ceremonies.

Police officials revealed that Aban, a Prayagraj resident, was en route to Jhansi to visit his two brothers who are currently detained in separate correctional facilities in the city when the accident unfolded around 10:30 am.

Investigation Reveals Possible Causes of Crash

Senior Superintendent of Police BBGTS Murthy stated that initial findings suggest the SUV was moving at considerable velocity. “One of the injured passengers told us that the vehicle became uncontrollable before crashing into the divider,” he said.

Umar informed journalists that the group was heading toward a jail facility in Jhansi when the collision occurred. Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation and are currently examining CCTV footage captured by cameras positioned along the national highway.

Investigators are also exploring whether an animal suddenly emerged onto the roadway, potentially causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. However, no conclusive determination has been made regarding this possibility.

Family Reunites for Burial

Aban’s twin brother, Ahjam, expressed his wishes to reporters in Jhansi: “Let our brothers attend the last rites.”

The injured passengers have been identified as Azam, aged 28, Mohammad Javed, 30, and Mohammad Umar. Aban is expected to be interred at Kasari Masari in Prayagraj, a burial ground where numerous family members have already been laid to rest.

Among Atiq Ahmad’s five sons, Aban was the youngest and slightly junior to his twin brother Ahjam. Currently, two of the five siblings—Umar and Ali—are being held in separate jails throughout Uttar Pradesh.

High Court Grants Parole for Brothers

The Allahabad High Court granted parole on Friday to imprisoned brothers Ali and Umar, sons of the slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad. This permission allows them to attend the burial of their younger brother Aban, who died in the road accident.

Another son of Atiq Ahmad, Asad Ahmad, was killed in a police encounter near Jhansi in April 2023. Asad was connected to the murder of Umesh Pal, a crucial witness in the 2005 killing of BSP MLA Raju Pal, where Atiq Ahmad was also listed as an accused.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Arvind Kumar confirmed that the accident occurred around 10:30 am on the Kanpur-Jhansi Road in the Poonch area. He identified the vehicle involved as a Hyundai Creta bearing registration number UP 70 FW 2432.

Police noted that Atiq Ahmad’s wife, Shaista Praveen, who is also an accused in the high-profile murder case, continues to remain at large.

On April 15, 2023, Atiq Ahmad, aged 60, and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at close range by three men disguised as journalists. They were being transported by police to a medical college in Prayagraj for a medical examination when the killings occurred.
