Rezaei also addressed Iran’s nuclear policy, saying the country remains committed to the fatwa issued by the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. But he said Iran was considering whether to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, depending on US conduct.
“We are now considering whether or not we will withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty. This depends on America’s conduct.”
No withdrawal was announced. Still, any decision to leave the treaty would have serious diplomatic implications and could intensify pressure on Tehran amid already strained relations with Western governments and regional rivals.
Saudi-Yemen Conflict and Houthi Attacks
Iran has also said it wants the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen to end. Rezaei said Tehran believed the Yemeni side was also seeking an arrangement with Riyadh and that Iran was prepared to help if requested.
The comments followed renewed violence involving the Iran-backed Houthi movement. The Saudi-led coalition said a ballistic missile was fired toward Riyadh at dawn on Saturday after a fire near the Saudi capital’s international airport.
Saudi air defences intercepted and destroyed the missile, according to the coalition. The Houthis said they had targeted “sensitive sites” but did not identify the locations. Yemen’s internationally recognised government condemned the attack and accused Tehran of providing military support to the Houthis.
