"Saturday's tremor was one of the largest to hit Flores since 1992, when one with a 7.5 magnitude caused significant damage," Wijayanto stated.

Aftermath and Recovery Efforts
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency reported that the "very strong" earthquake was felt for roughly one minute across the Nagekeo, Sikka, and West Manggarai regencies on Flores. Residents rushed outside their homes as the shaking intensified. The tremor extended as far as South Sulawesi.
Fathur Rahman, head of the search and rescue office in Maumere, confirmed at least 50 injuries alongside the fatalities. Officials noted that more than 2,000 people evacuated their homes while 70 residences sustained damage ranging from light to severe. Several public buildings also experienced impact.
"At least 50 injuries have been reported in addition to the deaths," said Fathur Rahman.
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency monitored at least 52 aftershocks with magnitudes between 3.6 and 6.2. Authorities initially issued a tsunami warning for coastal zones and requested evacuations before withdrawing the alert as the danger subsided.
