The broader programme, structured under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, envisions a total of 200 sleeper trainsets. At the Indore review, Kumar also flagged ongoing efforts to integrate artificial intelligence with existing CCTV networks across stations and onboard trainsets, aiming to improve real-time threat detection and crowd-monitoring capability. Separately, he noted that targeted measures are being implemented to address the persistent problem of rats entering passenger coaches — a nuisance that has drawn sustained passenger complaints across multiple zones.
The ₹18,500-crore Indore–Manmad railway line, approved in the 2024–25 budget cycle, was another focus of the visit. Kumar reported that land acquisition for the project is progressing at a pace he described as rapid, with construction expected to span four to five years from commencement. The line will create a new north-south freight and passenger artery through central India, shortening haul distances for goods moving between the western industrial belt and the eastern coal and steel corridors.
